John Beaton

John Beaton was raised in the Highlands of Scotland and lives on an acreage in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, Canada. An actuary by profession, he is now retired from a career as a corporate executive in the pensions industry. He and his wife have raised five children.

John's poetry has been widely published in literary and non-literary newspapers, magazines, journals, and anthologies. He is a regular spoken word performer at Celtic events, Burns Suppers, and literary gatherings. For almost 4 years, John was a moderator of The Deep End workshop at Eratosphere, one of the most respected metrical poetry forums on the internet. The singer, Laura Cortese, recorded one of John's Celtic poems on her recent "Acoustic Project" CD. And in 2009 John took 1st equal place in a worldwide competition to write a poem in commemoration of Robert Burns's 250th anniversary.
